Peshtigo is a city in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population 3,502 in the 2010 census. It is part of the Marinette, WI–MI Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The adjacent Town of Peshtigo, which encompasses a larger area, has a population of 4,507.
Peshtigo is most famous as the site of the Peshtigo Fire of 1871, in which more than 1,200 people perished. The fire, although the deadliest in United States history, is overshadowed by the Great Chicago Fire, which happened on the same day of Oct. 8, 1871. More than 1.2 million acres were destroyed in the Peshtigo fire.
The Town of Peshtigo is located between the cities of Marinette and Peshtigo, Wisconsin. It offers a vibrant, rural community full of friendly people.
